Exercise for Optimum Health

Not only is it exhilarating to be active outdoors but there are terrific health benefits as well.

According to Professor James Bell from the Medical Research Council in Imperial College London, “Diet alone will not shed fats from around the organs…exercise is the only way to shift it. You can look healthy but have a lot of fat internally, which can have a detrimental effect on your health

Visceral fat (or intraabdominal fat) refers to the deeply embedded fat that surrounds the internal organs making it dangerous excess. In fact, the excess fat around the internal organs can lead to a variety of dangerous chronic diseases. Clearly this is a health issue. Daily exercise and health monitoring are crucial to maintaining a safe level of visceral fat.

“Australians are becoming less healthy with every chronic disease increasing; such as obesity, Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Although diet is partly to blame, lack of exercise is a big part of the problem,” adds Edith Cowan University’s Professor of Exercise and Sports Science – Professor Rob Newton.
Go ahead – challenge yourself! Find at least 30 minutes’ moderate exercise as part of your daily lifestyle. Try to vary your weekly workout by including cardio sessions such as swimming, running or even walking the dog. Increased physical activity will help lower your visceral fat making you less susceptible to disease.

No matter how late in life you start your exercise routine, your body will still reap the benefit. Your body will thank you for it.
